Tiwa Savage, ''Nigerian music icon'' Has Received A PhD From A UK University

Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian music icon, has received a PhD from a UK university. Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian music icon, has received an honorary PhD degree from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom, many years after graduating from the institution with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Singer Tiwatope Savage, also known as Tiwa Savage, was born in Nigeria but moved to the United Kingdom when she was 11 years old to attend secondary school. She discovered her passion for music while attending secondary school in the United Kingdom.

She began her musical journey five years after moving to the UK. During this time, she studied at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Since then, she has accomplished numerous feats in both the Nigerian music industry and on the international stage. Her album was nominated for best album of the year in Nigeria in 2014, as well as Best R&B/Pop Album at The Headies.

Her alma mater, the University of Kent, awarded her an honorary Doctorate degree in recognition of her achievements. “We’re super proud to have awarded the Queen of Afrobeats an honorary doctorate at Canterbury Cathedral this morning,” the university tweeted on July 15, 2022.
