1. Akwaeke Emezi
Akwaeke Emezi is a veteran Nigerian novelist, short story writer and video artist.
She was born on 6 June 1987 in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria, to a Nigerian father of Igbo descent and an Indian mother.
Emezi, with her younger sister, Yagazie, started writing short stories when she was in her tender age. They used storytelling as a yardstick to escape bouts of domestic violences that had beset them when they were younger. They went on to receive their MPA from New York University, and were awarded a 2015 Miles Morland Scholarship.
She came to limelight when her short story, Who Is Like God, won the 2017 Commonwealth Short Story Prize for Africa.
Emezi further rose to prominence in 2018 when her first novel, Freshwater, a critically acclaimed semi-autobiographical novel that centers on the protagonist, Ada, an Ogbanje, was released. The book went on to win several awards such as 2019 Nommo Award, and 2019 Otherwise Award.
In 2019, she released another book, Pet, then The Death of Vivek Oji in 2020, Dear Senthuran: A Black Spirit Memoir in 2021.
2. Yagazie Emezi
Yagazie Emezi is a Nigerian artist, writer, and self-taught independent photojournalist.
She is based in Lagos, Nigeria. She was born in Abia State, Nigeria to a Nigerian father of Igbo descent and an Indian mother. She is Ekwaeke Emezi's younger sister.
She took up a career as a photojournalist in 2015, and her works has been recommended by many journalism houses such as Washington Post, Al-jazeera, New York Times, Vogue, and The Guardian.
She made a documentary about the impact of education for girls in at-risk communities evoked from her experiences in Monrovia, Liberia, where she stayed for ten months in 2017, making her documentary work.
In 2019, she made history by becoming the first black African woman to photograph for National Geographic Magazine.
She is the proud recipient of the 2018 inaugural Creative Bursary Award from Getty Images, and The 2017 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of New Mexico, African Studies Department.
2. Denrele Edun
Denrele Edun is a famous Nigerian cross dresser, model, actor, dancer, and a television personality.
He was born on the 13th of June, 1983, in Hamburg, Germany. He is currently 38 years old. Denrele's father is a Nigerian man of Yoruba descent and his mother, Anita Dhuwantee Atwaroo Edun, is from India.
He spent his early years in Germany before moving to Nigeria at the infant age of five.
He was enrolled in the St. Gregory's College, Ikoyi, Lagos State. He later gained admission to study English Education at the University of Lagos. As a undergraduate at the University of Lagos, he started his career as a model. After his graduation, he got a job as a television presenter with Soundcity and worked as presenter.
Denrele started her television career as an actor at the age of eleven when he played a presenter on Kiddievision 101 on NTA Network.
He has also worked as a Choreographer. She was one of the back up for musicians like 2Shotz, Rugged man, Goldie Harvey, and LexyDoo.
He is often known for his weird fashion style and personality.
