Two Reasons Davido Is Currently A Bigger Artiste Than Wizkid

It is no longer news that Davido and Wizkid are unarguably the two biggest musical exports from Nigeria whose exploits in the entertainment industry has since placed Africa on the global map. However, despite their many and different accomplishments, the duo have been constantly paired against each other by their fans in regards to who is the better and bigger artiste.

For context, both singers command tremendous influence and each carries with him his own bragging rights, but for the purpose of this article, here are two reasons I believe Davido is currently a bigger artiste than Wizkid;

1- Huge Fans Base

Omo Baba Olowo (OBO) may have started his career after Wizkid, but in the last decade, he has managed to garner more followers on social media than the Essence crooner. On Instagram, Davido currently commands 23.3 million followers, 10.8 million on Twitter and 4.3 million on Facebook. While Bigwiz on the other hand has 14.2 million followers on Instagram, 9.6 million on Twitter and 7.2 million on Facebook.

Clearly, Davido has a bigger social media appeal than Wizkid and that's why he was able to make popular a number of catchphrase like "E Choke" and "Tule".

2- Major International Recognitions

In the last 12 months, Davido has been featured in two major International productions. Last year, he became the first African music star to feature in a blockbuster Hollywood movie "Coming 2 America", where he made a cameo appearance performing his 2018 hit song "Assurance".

Earlier this month, the singer bagged yet another international score becoming the first Nigerian artiste to be featured in an official soundtrack for the FIFA World Cup. The Afrobeat star was featured alongside American star Trinidad Cardona and Qatari sensation Aisha in a song title "Better Together", one they performed yesterday in Qatar shortly before the FIFA World Cup draw.

Indeed, his involvement in the aforementioned international productions goes along way to show how just much Davido has established himself as a household name in the global music landscape. Suffice to say that when the DMW boss came into the music industry in 2011, he was tipped by critics to have a short career, but 11 years on, he is still a force to reckon with and continues to set standards no African artiste has.

Take nothing away from Wizkid and his brand, but Davido at the moment is on a whole new level than him.
