Nigerians have witnessed the news of the death of some great personalities in the entertainment industry who lost their lives to the deadly cancer.

Here is the list of top 5 celebrities who died of cancer in 2021:

Veteran actress, Ify Onwuemene, best known for her role in the popular sitcom “Everyday People”, had died on Tuesday, 29th May after a long-term battle with endometrial cancer.

The news of her death was announced by her colleague, actress Gloria Anozie-Young, on her Facebook page.

“With a deep sense of loss but total submission to God Almighty, we regret to announce that IFEY ONWUEMENE has gone to be with the Lord,

“IFEY ONWUEME was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Her womb was removed, but she has been battling the ailment for many years now.

“In 2019, even after eight sessions of chemotherapy, the doctors told her she had reached stage 4. However, we are not sure if she was given the wrong diagnosis or being treated with the wrong chemo, because she still felt pains on her upper abdomen and her tummy was bloated.” Anozie-Young wrote.

Sound Sultan

The famous Nigerian rapper,Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiu Fasasi better known asSound Sultan notable for his R&B, Hip-Hop, reggae and afrobeat, died at the age of 44 on the 11th of July.

He was well known for using his music to speak against poverty, corruption, bad governance and societal ills in Nigeria.

Sound Sultan was diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma in the throat and it was reported he was somewhere in the United States of America receiving Chemotherapy.

Unfortunately, He died as a result of his illness.

Karibi Fubara

Nollywood actor, Karibi Fubara died on the 15th December 2021 after battling mid-stage kidney tumour/cancer, for more than a year.

His death was announced by his sister, Aya Eneli via her Twitter handle on Wednesday. According to her, He lived fully and with joy.

Karibi, who married popular Nollywood fashion entrepreneur, Yolanda Okereke in 2019, won many hearts in films such as the recent ‘Smart Money Woman’ and ‘God Calling’.

Sadiq Daba

Nigerian broadcaster cum actor, Sadiq Daba announced he was diagnosed with Leukemia and Prostate cancer. He died on March 3rd at Ayinke general hospital, Ikeja.

Doris Chima

Nollywood actress, Doris Chima, died after a battle with cancer in August 2021. The news of her death was confirmed by the Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Lagos chapter, Emeka Rising Ibe.
