Mercy Johnson experienced some difficult challenges in life while growing up. She got herself engaged with several odd jobs just to improve her family's standard of living.

In an article published on, it was revealed that at some point in her life, she and her family lived in an uncompleted house. Due to the poor condition of the house, lizards and other crawling insects were found inside the house, she also said that the house gets flooded whenever it rains. Despite these challenges, Mercy Johnson didn't lose focus.

At some point, she got interested in acting, she tried everything possible to become an actress. Luckily for her, she was picked to take a lead role in a movie titled "The Maid" after she auditioned for a role in the movie.

Most movie directors and producers were pleased with the talent and creativity she displayed in the movie, "The Maid." This promoted her in the industry and she continued acting in other Nollywood movies which include Hustlers, Baby Oku in America, War in the Palace, etc.

Her good work in the movie industry earned several movie awards and recognitions, including the award for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress in 2009 and 2013 respectively. In 2017, She was honored by her state government as she was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Kogi state governor on entertainment, arts, and culture.

Currently, Mercy Johnson is married with kids. She is not only an actress but also a movie producer, she is also recognized as one of the highest-paid Nigerian actresses.
